SUMMARY:Cocagne Island Exploration
DESCRIPTION:Because the Geocaching NB group organize an annual trek to the Cocagne Island\, and carefully monitor the integrity of the ice leading up to it\, we are able to offer a unique snowshoeing experience. Gale Connor Breau has kindly agreed to lead hikers on   an 8ish km snowshoe and crampon trek to view the migrating blue heron nests and the beautiful landscape on the north east side of the island where we will break for lunch. This will not involve geocaching but we are grateful to that community for sharing their event day with any interested parties.\nMoncton area carpool meetup at Centennial Park lot near dog park at 8:15 am. Event meetup at Notre Centre\, 468 Route 530\, Grande-Digue\, at 9 am for carpooling to Chemin-Surette Road\, Cocagne\, where parking may be limited. Please come prepared with both crampons AND snowshoes\, crampons will likely be best for crossing over to the island on the ice\, but have your snowshoes attached to your packs as they will be needed to explore the island. Any questions\, contact Maureen Wallace 506 850 9401.\n\n\nSee below for the details received from Tom Jenicek with Geocaching NB regarding their Feb. 28 event: \n\nFeb 28th Snowshoe to Shediac island\, Cocagne island\, and surrounding trails. A geocaching event open to all hikers. Come join the fun!Icewalk Update!\n\n\nAll is set at the Notre Centre event headquarters.\n\n\nWe will be showing slideshows of previous Icewalks\, see yourself in action.\n\n\nA cash bar will be available!\n\n\nPotluck contributions are appreciated! I will be bringing a soup and my wife’s fricot.\n\n\nAbout 50+ new caches will be published prior to the event (going into the queue tomorrow)\, including COCAGNE ISLAND and trails in the Grande Digue area. Shediac Island will be a great hike but no new caches.\n\n\nWEATHER: Absolutely perfect snowshoe weather with an overnight low of -6°C and a high on event day of -1°C and SUNNY!\n\n\nThis may be the last Icewalk\, so come enjoy this super fun day\, see you all soon!

SUMMARY:Moosehorn/Laverty Kelly
DESCRIPTION:Lavery/Moosehorn Loop – Approx 7.3 km – Moderate/Strenuous. \nExpect wet spots\, some stream crossings\, and rooty and rocky terrain as well as the need to navigate a large eroded boulder area along the trail. \nDepart from Fox Field at 9am or meet at Fundy National Park Headquarters at 10:15. We will then drive to the trailhead located at the parking area at the end of Laverty Road. \nThe hike will begin at the Laverty Falls trailhead\, and will descend gradually but steadily for 2.5 km until we reach the falls. We will then continue along the path until it meets the Moosehorn trail. The trail alternates between stretches of grassy areas\, alder lined riverbanks and gravely  stream sides. We will eventually pass cold water pools and swimming holes along the way until we reach a scenic and eroded boulder area where we will stop for lunch before we resume our hike. \n  \nAfter our lunch break\, initially there is a very steep climb up the Moosehorn trail\, which becomes more of a gradual upward grade for the final 2 km back to the parking area. \n  \nFor questions\, please reach out to Kelly at kellychase8931@gmail.com
