MOE 2023 Camping Trip

Notice re 2023 Camping Trip

The location for the 2023 Camping Trip will be decided by those in attendance at the AGM on October 30th.

I have reviewed the list of past Weeklong Camping Trips since 1997 and excluding Cape Breton (last year’s location) the most visited were: Acadia National Park, Bar Harbour Maine; Gaspecie  Park (Mont Albert), PQ; Forillon National Park, Gaspe, PQ.  I have provided below a brief summary of the trail options and other factors regarding each of these parks.   (I have visited Gaspecie but not Acadia or Forillon so the information for those two is all from on-line sources).  Please have look at these options so you can make an informed decision at the AGM.

Acadia National Park ( https://www.nps.gov/acad ) – There appears to be a sufficient number of trails available of varying length and difficulty.  There is camping available just outside the park if booked early.  The main concern regarding planning and during a visit is the number of people and vehicles.  Last year there were 4 million visitors to the park.

Gaspecie National Park (https://www.sepaq.com/pq/gas/index.dot?language_id=1 ) – There is a sufficient number of trails available of varying length and difficulty.  Camping is available within the park.

Forillon National Park ( https://www.pc.gc.ca/en/pn-np/qc/forillon ) – There does not appear to be enough trail options within the park but combined with Perce Park ( https://geoparcdeperce.com ) there would be enough trails to fill a week.  Travel time to the Perce trails is about 1hr 15m and we will require 2 or 3 trips.  Camping is available within Forillon Park.

If you would like to propose an additional location for the 2023 Camping Trip please contact me at phil-hardy@hotmail.com.
