2024 MOE Summer Camping Trip

Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Saturday, July 20th to Monday, July 29th, 2024

The 2024 MOE camping trip is to be in Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland and Labrador with hiking scheduled from Monday, July 22nd to Saturday, July 27th.  July 20th/21st and 28th/29th will be travel days.  An itinerary will be provided later.
I (Phill) have reserved the group camping at Berry Hill Campground that will accommodate 25 people.  The cost in 2023 was $6.25 per person per night (it will increase for 2024).  You do not have to contact the Park if you are staying in the Group Camping area, you just have to notify me.  It will be determined later how we pay the park.  There are options available if you don’t want to stay in the group camping.  There are 6 rustic shelters in the same area as the group camping and there are individual camping sites available in the main Berry Hill Campground and other campgrounds within the Park.  These can be reserved using the Parks Canada website beginning at 8:30 am NT on Tuesday February 13, 2024.  Another alternative is to book a motel or cabin in the community of Rocky Harbour (approx. 5km from the Campground).  These would have to be booked directly with the business.

The main thing that is different with this trip is the ferry from North Sydney, NS to Port aux Basques, NL.  There are 2 crossings daily, one daytime and one overnight.  Please study the website carefully at marineatlantic.ca.  I suggest taking the overnight trip to allow for driving in daytime.  During the peak summer season the crossing will likely be full so be sure to reserve early.  Cabins are available on the ferry but are booked up early.  If you don’t have a cabin you will be sleeping in a chair (sleeping on the floor is not permitted).  It is suggested that you book well in advance, perhaps January or February to ensure getting a cabin.   It is better to book early even if you are not certain you can go.  The ferry appears to be free cancellation if more than 48 hours prior to trip.
If you plan to attend please email me your name, email address, phone number, arrival and departure dates as well as where you will be staying ( group camping, rustic shelter, individual camping site or other accommodation).
